Biographies

Paul Anderson

Paul Anderson, 43 years old, currently works as a medical technician and attends school for archaeology. He has drafted resolutions advocating the World Federalists for the Massachusetts state legislature and was successful in lobbying both houses of the Massachusetts legislature to adopt the resolutions. Paul has also drafted a proposed amendment to the Massachusetts Constitution (World Federal Goal) and succeeded in putting question on the local ballot in Lexington & Lincoln Mass. Paul Anderson is a wholehearted advocate of a global federation and has come to believe that federally uniting the democracies is the way to approach and achieve this goal. He recently joined AUD in October 2002.

Ron Bach

Board Member Ron Bach is currently a flight officer with United Airlines. He also is a Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve serving with the Atlantic Fleet Headquarters in Northern Virginia. His current military assignment has included port security, which is done in coordination with homeland security. Recently married, he is practicing his parenting responsibilities for his new son. Ron will soon complete his MBA degree.

George Brooks

George Brooks is one of the last board members who used to work with AUD Founder Clarence Streit as well as the Hon. Henry P. Smith, III. While in college he wrote a “white paper” on a world federation that he sent to all the members of the U.S. Senate and selected members of the House without knowing about the existence of any non-profit organizations related to these issues. His white paper created minimal response but allowed him to join the World Federalist Organization (and become a Board member later), meet Clarence Streit, and join the Board of Directors of the Association to Unite the Democracies. Currently, Mr. Brooks is a financial/budget analyst at Lockheed Martin Tactical Defense, Florida. During the last decades he worked with Florida Sea Company (Information Analyst), Paragon Properties (Director of Real Estate Management), Arthur Young & Company (Management Consultant). George Brooks earned his BA from the University of Massachusetts, Boston and obtained an MBA from Rice University, Houston, Texas.

Rick DiMassimo

Mr. DiMassimo is the President of the Native American Television (NATV). Before he helped to form Native American Television (NATV) in 1988, Rick worked with Native American organizations on a variety of media projects including the National Congress of American Indians, Indian Health Services, and the Nez Perce Indian Nation. He is responsible for the operation of two websites. He has also produced a wide variety of public access television and radio programs. Rick has a Master's Degree in Film and Television Production from American University, Washington, D.C. and recently joined AUD in October, 2002.

Dr. Joseph Drew

Dr. Joseph Drew is the President of the Anglo-American University of Prague, Czech Republic. He also serves as Provost for the Potomac Regional Education Partnership, an organization of over 3,000 Greater Washington education, political, and civic leaders. Before becoming Provost in 2001, Dr. Drew was named Executive Director by PREP founder and Board Chairman, Senator Jim Jeffords. Dr. Drew's career in academia began at Brooklyn College of New York as the college’s Director of Grants and Research. As a Professor, Dr. Drew taught both graduate and undergraduate classes at the University of the District of Columbia for two decades. He was Vice President at Southeastern University in D.C. At Shepherd College, in Shepherdstown, WV, he was Chairman for the Division of Business and Social Sciences. Dr. Drew was responsible for nine different departments at Shepherd before accepting his current role as the President of Anglo-American University of Prague. Dr. Drew earned his B.A. from Columbia College (1964) in Sociology. He earned an M.S.J. from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism before obtaining his M.A. and Ph.D.’s in both Sociology and Political Science. He joined AUD in 1999.

Randy G. Flood

Randy Flood recently joined AUD in October, 2002 and is currently President and CEO of the Commonwealth Policy Institute Network (CPIN), a national nonpartisan public policy think tank existing in cyberspace. From 1983 to 1998, he served as President of Randolph G. Flood & Associates, a Washington D.C. Prior to starting his own business; he worked as a professional staff member of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works. He also founded the Virginia DLC, a former state affiliate of the nationally based Democratic Leadership Council and Progressive Policy Institute. Randy Flood has also been active as a lecturer before business groups, civic organizations and schools. He served on the faculty of George Washington University's Washington Representative Program. Randy graduated from Shepherd College, West Virginia, in 1973, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science.

Irma Foley

Irma, originally from Bosnia, is a two-time Frank Education Fund scholar. She is a 2003 graduate of American Unuiversity's Washington College of Law and member of the Maryland State bar. Irma will join the American-based international lawfirm Coudert Brothers LLP as an associate attorney in Spring 2004. She is married to David Foley, a spokesman for the United States Department of State, who also supports AUD activities. Both Irma and David will move to Moscow in Summer 2004. Irma joined the AUD Board of Directors in October 2004.

Col. Robert L. Frantz

Robert L. Frantz has been the President and CEO of The Association to Unite the Democracies in Washington, D.C. for three years. He served for 20 years in the United States Marine Corps (retired as Lt. Col USMC (F-4 pilot). He had an experience in combat tour in Vietnam and also served in NATO. He also spent 14 years as a Captain for United Airlines (retired on May 1st, 2003). Bob served for six years as a systems analyst for the Airline Pilots Association and for three years on the President’s Commission for Airline Safety. He is currently President and CEO of The Distinguished Flying Cross Society consisting of 3500 members and 14 chapters across the U.S. For the last six years, Bob has been volunteering at the National Air and Space Museum in development/fundraising. Mr. Frantz earned his B.A. from the University of Minnesota in Liberal Arts. He obtained an M.S. degree in Systems Management from the University of Southern California.

Captain Tom Hudgens

Captain Hudgens served as President and CEO of the Association to Unite the Deomcracies for six years in the 1990’s. He is currently serving as Honorary Vice-President of the Campaign for UN Reform and a Certified Lay Speaker of the United Methodist Church. He previously served as Vice-President of the World Federalist Association, President of the World Citizens Assembly, and President of the Denver Executives Club. He is the author of "Let's Abolish War" which has sold over 110,000 copies. He has also written "The Night Jesus Christ Returned to Earth" which is currently in circulation. During WWII, Captain Hudgens was a flight instructor and Chief Pilot at an Army Air Corps Flight Training School at Cimarron Field, Oklahoma. After the war he served United Airlines as Captain and Flight Manager for 36 years.

Moyna Hudgens

Mrs. Moyna Hudgens is a long-time standing member of AUD. She attended El Reno Junior College and Oklahoma University. Moyna was active in United Methodist Church as the first woman Chairperson of the Board of her local Church of 1,000 + Members and twice President of the United Methodist Church. She sought after Solo Dramatist for the past 47 years with five different titles and over 500 Presentations to churches, schools, civic clubs, and universities. Moyna has been a Board Member of Denver Urban Ministries and a Chairperson of the By-laws Committee of the Association to Unite the Democracies. In 2002 she was a Coordinator for “Our World National Conference” in Denver, sponsored by AUD, the United Nations Association and the World Federalist Movement. Currently, Moyna Hudgens is President of the United Nations Association, USA Colorado Division.

Wayne Jacoby

Mr. Jacoby has been with AUD for several years. Wayne founded Global Education Motivators (GEM) in 1981, and is currently serving as President and CEO of the organization, which he has done since its inception. Wayne began his career in education as a high school social studies teacher from suburban Philadelphia. Today he manages GEM’s programs from Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia. Wayne received his B.Ed. from Plymouth State College, his M.A. from Lehigh University, and his M.Ed. from Temple University.

Dr. Piotr Kaznacheev

Piotr Kaznacheev recently earned his PhD in Political and Social Philosophy from the Moscow State University. He obtained his Master's Degree in International Economics and International Relations from the School of Advanced International Studies {SAIS) of the Johns Hopkins University, Washington DC in 2002. While studying in the United States, Piotr was awarded a Frank Fund scholarship and worked first as an intern then as a consultant for AUD. His experience include participating in TV debates in Russia with well-known politicians as Mikhail Gorbachev, Vladimir Zirinovski and Gennadi Zuganov, organizing youth events focusing on establishing more tolerance between ethnic and religious groups in Russia, and coordinating the formation of the youth organization of the largest reformist democratic movement in Russia. He also worked as an expert of a USAID sponsored project with the Moscow Helsinki Group (1998-2000)and served as a Foreign Policy Advisor for the office of Vladimir Koptev-Dvomikov, MP in the Russian Parliament(1999-2000). In 2001 Piotr worked as a Research Assistant for the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Brussels. Piotr joined AUD as a Director in July of 2002.

Dr. Robert W. Lamson

Dr. Lamson has been a member of AUD for several years. As aide to the Assistant Secretary of Interior for Water Quality and Research (1966-1969), and as aide to the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Civil Defense) (1962-64), his duties included policy oversight and congressional relations, public information, and writing of congressional testimony and speeches. As research analyst in the Department of the Army's Office of Civil Defense (1964- 1966), he planned and managed a research support program on the effects of and recovery from nuclear attack. As Legislative Assistant to Senator E. L. Bartlett (Alaska) (1960-1962) he was involved in policy research and legislation with particular emphasis on Alaska, environment and population issues, natural resources, shipping, fisheries and national security.

Robert L. Maddex

An attorney with thirty years experience in international, administrative, and constitutional law, Robert L. Maddex is the author of a number of legal reference works for Congressional Quarterly Books, including: Constitutions of the World (1995) and Constitutions of the World (2nd ed., 2001); The Illustrated Dictionary of Constitutional Concepts (1996); State Constitutions of the United States (1998); International Dictionary of Human Rights; Freedoms, Abuses and Remedies (200); and The U.S. Constitution, A to Z (2002). Having joined the Foreign Claims Settlement Commission of the United States in 1963, he retired in 1988 as Chief Counsel and acting head of the agency. Mr. Maddex assisted the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) as legal counsel to the country’s constitutional convention held in 1991 and also assisted the Pacific Island state of Chuuk (formerly called Trunk) with drafting its constitution. A member of the board of directors of the Association to Unite the Democracies since 1999, he has been the organization’s secretary and treasurer since 2001.

Menko Rose

Menko Rose was born in 1925 in New York City, attended Cornell University (B.A.) and later, California State University at Hayward (M.S.), and the University of Washington (Ph.C.); was awarded three battle stars and a Purple Heart as a rifleman in the 90th Infantry division in World War II; had a variety of careers including: securities analyst on Wall Street; guitarist and folk singer; wholesaler of metal cutting tools and equipment; Marriage, Family and Child Therapist; and researcher on the improvability of adult human intelligence. Menko has been an active world federalist for about 15 years. He has served as assistant treasurer of WFA, treasurer of the World Government Coalition, president of the WFA of Monterey County, and is now on the Board of Directors of AUD, an honorary vice president of WFA, and coordinator of the NGO Coalition for the Community of Democracies and master of its web site. Menko has written many articles and presented a number of programs in this country and in Europe and Japan mostly advocating a worldwide, constitutional, federation of democracies with limited jurisdiction, not to supplant the United Nations, but to supplement it.

Dr. Mervin K. Strickler

Native Pennsylvanian, Dr. Strickler attended public schools and college there graduating from Clarion State University, Pennsylvania. He was Chief Instructor for the Clearfield, Pennsylvania Institute of Aviation and served as bombardier-navigator instructor during World War II and originated and headed the U.S. Army Air Corps College of Aeronautics at the Las Vegas, Nevada, Army Air Field in 1945. Mervin earned his doctorate in education from Stanford University, Palo Alto, California in 1951. His professional work has been as educator, teacher educator, and later curriculum designer for colleges and universities in the United States and foreign countries and consultant in social studies, aviation, space, and transportation. While in government, he designed and directed the US Air Force, Civil Air Patrol Aviation Education and the Aviation Education programs for the Federal Aviation Administration. Merv has known and worked with Clarence Streit for more than forty years. He served as Executive Director of Federal Union from 1979 to 1982 and has served on AUD’s Board of Directors since that time. As a Board Member, he served as: Secretary, Treasurer, Chairman of the Nominating Committee, Chairman of the Executive Committee and currently as Vice Chairman of the Board.

Robert Stuart

Mr. Stuart has been a Board Member of the Association to Unite the Democracies from the very beginning of its existence. He has been involved in numerous international peace activities and associations, which makes him an invaluable member of AUD. He earned an Honorary Doctor of Laws honor from the University of Illinois at Chicago, inducted into Chicago Senior Citizens Hall of Fame, and became Person of the Year in 1997 with Corporate Responsibility Group. Mr. Stuart is a Founding President of the Presidents Association of Illinois, Past President of Corporate Responsibility Group (1998 Person of the Year), Past Director of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and Founding Chairman of National Minority Supplier Development Council. Robert Stuart obtained his B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois in 1943, and a degree in the Program for Senior Executives from MIT in 1959.

Dania Therecka

Danja Therecka is a 22-year-old Albanian student. She recently graduated from the American University in Washington DC with a B.A. in International Relations and is currently enrolled in American University’s Masters Program. Her area of interest as a graduate student is comparative and regional studies, with a concentration on Euro-Atlantic relations. She has spent 6 months working for the European Union in Brussels on the issue of Security in Europe. She was an intern at the Brookings Institute in Washington DC and worked as a summer intern for AUD in 2002. She has been of great help and contributed with enthusiasm and skills to the collaboration of our current projects. Dania has recently applied for U.S. citizenship and joined AUD as a Board Director in October 2002.

John D. Willard

John Willard has an eclectic background ranging from professional hazardous materials management as an environmental consultant, producer for an oral history center, to the founder and Executive Co-Director of a multi-partisan political organization. John is currently responsible for projects involving environmental site assessments and remediation, management system auditing, program implementation, hazardous materials management, as well as indoor air quality and industrial hygiene issues. He conducts phase I and phase II property transfer assessments, phase III project oversight, VPP and EHS audits, hazardous materials surveys, industrial hygiene, and air monitoring for a wide variety of clients served by Property Diagnostics, Incorporated. John has graduated from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County with a Master’s degree in History, while working on various projects with the Martha Ross Center for Oral History. John joined AUD’s Board of Directors in October 2002.

Marielle Reiss, Executive Director

Ms. Reiss first joined AUD as a summer intern in 1997. In January 2003, she re-joined the AUD family for a permanent position as AUD's new Office Manager. A native of France, Marielle brings to AUD international experience, knowledge of international relations, and understanding of six different languages. She has been trained as a social scientist and holds a European Masters in International Humanitarian Law, a M.A. in Foreign Languages and International Relations, and a post graduate specialization in Human Rights and Democracy. Her working experience includes organizations such as UNESCO, UNDP, and the Council of Europe.

In addition to the Office Manager, AUD benefits year-round from the help of one to three interns from different parts of the world. All graduate students pursuing degrees in fields closely related to AUD's mission, they contribute to our work with skills, talent, and enthusiasm.
